Abstract
Mammalian spermatogenesis is a complex process involving regulatory interactions of many gene products. In this study, we found that dynein light chain-1 (DLC1), a component of the dynein motor complex, is highly expressed in mouse and rat testes. Immunohistochemically detectable levels of DLC1 are observed specifically in spermatids in steps 9-16 in distinct subcellular compartments PMID: [15983119]

Function
The activated kinase acts on a variety of targets.Likely to be the GTPase effector that links the Rho-relatedGTPases to the JNK MAP kinase pathway. Activated by CDC42 andRAC1. Involved in dissolution of stress fibers and reorganizationof focal complexes. Involved in regulation of microtubulebiogenesis through phosphorylation of TBCB. DVL1 and PAK1 form aternary complex with MUSK which is important for MUSK-dependentregulation of AChR clustering during the formation of theneuromuscular junction (NMJ). Activity is inhibited in cellsundergoing apoptosis, potentially due to binding of CDC2L1 andCDC2L2. Phosphorylates MYL9/MLC2 (By similarity). PhosphorylatesRAF1 at 'Ser-338' and 'Ser-339' resulting in: activation of RAF1,stimulation of RAF1 translocation to mitochondria, phosphorylationof BAD by RAF1, and RAF1 binding to BCL2 (By similarity).
